Der umgekehrten Richtung, aus dem Meer auf das Pflaster, folgt Gladis, die Protagonistin dieser Oper. Gladis ist eine Orca. Und sie will kaputt machen, was sie kaputt macht. Kreuzfahrtschiffe, Superyachten, solche Sachen. Auf dem Weg ihrer Rache trifft sie Lone, der ihr für 24 Stunden menschliche Gestalt verspricht und dafür eine ihrer Flossen als Lohn fordert. Auf dem Pflaster trifft sie auf Abad und Ge, auf eine Stadtguerilla, auf Schüler auf Museumsbesuch in Stammheim. Gladis gerät zwischen die Fronten und es stellen sich Fragen: Heiligt ein Zweck die Mittel? Was bleibt, wenn jede Wahrheit verdreht ist? Und wenn du friedlich gegen die Gewalt nicht ankommen kannst, ist das letzte Mittel, das uns allen bleibt, Militanz? Aber oder und weil dies ein Märchen ist, kann der Kuss der wahren Liebe Gladis aus allem Dazwischen befreien. Der rote Wal ist nicht Märchen, um zu verniedlichen, sondern um mit einem Stuttgarter Stoff umzugehen, der wie ein Mythos aufgeladen ist. Um von Widerstand und vom Gewaltmonopol zu erzählen. Den Text schreibt Markus Winter, als Maeckes nicht nur einer der Orsons, sondern als Solotexter, -denker und -musiker ein weit über den Kesselrand hinaus bekannter Sohn der Mutterstadt.
